Here is the link to the LIR 2014 Spring Calendar of classes (produced in Google Calendar). The Time and Class Name are shown for each class. If you click on the class name, additional information is displayed (Day of Week, Date, Start & Stop Time, Location name).

Some members report that they cannot access the calendar in Google. Here is a link to 5 calendar pages in PDF format.

I have written driving directions for the different venues on page 2 of the Curriculum Guide. On the Google calendar, there is a link for Map. Many of the maps are in color. If you see an error on any of the maps, send me an email, and I will try to correct the description of the location.

At the Sep. 11, 2013, class, John Roberts gave us a presentation on the Geology of the Pine & Popple Rivers (Florence County). He also showed us videos of canoeing the whitewater of those rivers. He emphasized the importance of receiving training before attempting whitewater paddling, and also the importance of paddling with others who are trained in the safety involved in paddling whitewater. He told us where to obtain Streamflow information for many sites in the state. He was telling us about the

At the April 3, 2013, Ced's Nature Series Class, Konnie Hunter told us of her two-week working vacation in St. Lucia with Good News of Wausau. She told us of the good work which this organization does in the West Indies and also in the Wausau area.

At the April 10, 2013, class on "Crows and Ravens" presented by Licia Johnson of the North Lakeland Discovery Center, the following handouts were given (click on links to download a copy for yourself):

Harley Erbs brought us an article from Business Week magazine entitled "Eat Crow". The recipe and procedure was written by Melissa Perfit, a chef de cuisine at HardWater, a restaurant on the San Francisco waterfront. Click here to read the article.

Bettina McCleary brought us copies of "Wild Flower Picks" compiled by her friend, Allan Bell. This contains many locations for finding Spring Ephemerals that must bloom before the leaves on the trees above them open and shade them too much.
